PERSONAL
PERSONAL APPEARANCE
Neku is a boy of average height with a slim build, characterized by his flaming orange hair and ice blue eyes. Neku’s usual attire consists of a black, sleeveless shirt with a collar reaching his chin with a purple streak down the center, as well as a pair of purple headphones that never leave his ears. A pair of baggy white cargo pants reach about to his knees, and his shoes hold the same color scheme as his shirt. Neku wears a yellow cloth bracelet on his left wrist, and a white lanyard around his neck. A purple belt hangs down from his pants, buckled, but not pulled tight enough to grip his waist closely
PERSONALITY
’Friendly‘ is not a word that describes Neku well. He trusts no one easily, and is strongly defiant of anything he is told to do, especially if he doesn‘t have any reason to believe what you‘re saying. He sees other people as a burden to drag him down, and as such locks himself away in his own world between his headphones. He holds trust in the very few friends he has, and is notably more sociable to them, but to everyone else, Neku may as well be a block of ice. He sees letting other people close as exposing weaknesses, something that he doesn’t want to happen to him.
However, Neku does have a softer side; deep down, he avoids people because he‘s afraid of having another friend injured or killed because of him. He has the capability of behaving in a friendly way, as well as showing compassion and empathy should he feel the need to, though the times when these are shown are rare. In these rare events, he is also capable of being supportive, and might even attempt to cheer someone up if they’re close enough to be considered a friend. Neku is also not very playful; he has plenty of energy, but he is more often than not serious; the rest of the time, he is rude and sarcastic to most everyone. In addition to this, Neku is also very smart, able to pick up on things more quickly than others can, though he‘s not a super genius.
ITEMS
Cell phone: Neku‘s phone, a brand new model just released in Japan. It‘s unique in the way that it can function as a normal phone by using any satellite transmission it picks up, rather than just the company satellites.
Canon airship Celcius
UG Player‘s pin: A black pin with a skull motif given to all participants of the Reaper‘s Game. In the UG, it allows players to read the minds of non-players and drop phrases into their minds to gain assistance in the missions assigned by the Reapers. Though it has lost its previous power, it gained a new one upon the calamity‘s occurrence. The Player’s Pin is required to boot up and use Psychs, and kicks in automatically when they are out of power to begin the recharge.
PSYCH:
- Air Time: By energizing the Player‘s Pin itself, Neku gains the ability to perform amazing acrobatic moves in the air, as well as levitate. While levitating, Neku can only use magic abilities or ranged Psychs, but he also can only be hit by ranged weapons and magic. [Levitate for two posts; four post cool down]
HISTORY
Neku has had a mainly normal childhood; went to school, got good grades, etcetera. However, he asked his friend one day to meet him after school. That day, Neku’s best and only friend was killed by a speeding car. Neku blamed himself for his friend’s death, and shut himself off from the world; he practically refused any sort of social interaction that wasn’t absolutely necessary, shutting everything out. When you made friends, you revealed your weaknesses; he was never going to do that again. Over time, Neku’s reputation built, and he gained the title of ‘the worst person in Shibuya’ for his behavior.
At age fifteen, Neku Sakuraba was murdered. When he was, his soul was brought to an alternate plane of resistance known as the UG, existing alongside the real world and serving as a test; he had a chance to win his life back by playing something called the ‘Reaper’s Game.’ To participate, Neku was required to forfit his most valued possession; his memories. As such, Neku didn’t even remember that he was playing the Reaper’s Game when he awoke on Day 1, finding himself in Shibuya‘s Scramble Crossing, invisible to nearly everyone. A ghost. The game was to last for a week; in the game, you must find another player and form a pact, and only then can you defeat Noise, monsters resembling normal animals that are used by the Reapers, spirits that run the Game, to attack and ‘Erase’ the players; as in, send their souls to oblivion. Neku was found by another player by the name of Shiki, who quickly insisted he make a pact with her. He agreed, and the two defeated the Noise pursuing them. Shiki then informed Neku that he was involved in a game for his life, that he required a partner, and that if he and Shiki did not finish the missions assigned by the Reapers, they would be gone forever; dead for good, with no second chance. Though still skeptical about the whole thing, Neku and Shiki beat every challenge thrown at them during the seven day period they were given, meeting another pair of players, Rhyme and Beat, and made it to the end.
And, though Shiki got out of the game, Neku found himself back in his starting point on the eighth day; Scramble Crossing. He’d been kept on a technicality, and required a different partner. By some stroke of luck, another player was kept; a boy named Joshua. The two teamed up and, though there were some difficulties and major personality clashing, bested the second week, headed by the Reaper Sho Minamimoto with his unique Taboo Noise. After defeating Sho on the seventh day of the second week, again Neku was kept in the game, forced to participate yet again. This time, he was partnered with a boy from his first week; Beat, who had chosen to become a Reaper rather than die. Again, Neku beat all seven missions thrown at him, and fought the Reaper Sho Minamimoto a second time, seeming to finally win back his life and his memories. However, he was faced with one more problem; Joshua, who returned to the third week, as it turned out was the one who had killed him, something he realized as soon as his memories started to return to him. Joshua and Neku had the opportunity to become the Composer, the one in charge of the Reaper’s Game; but, one of them had to kill the other. Because of his changing through his experiences with Shiki and Beat, Neku couldn't figure out what to do, and was erased…
Or, so he thought. He woke up, yet again, in Shibuya’s Scramble Crossing, and let out a cry of anger and desperation, thinking he was being forced to play the Game AGAIN. But this time, the people around him could actually hear and see him, revealing to him that he’d been saved from death by Joshua, the Game’s new Composer. After seeing ‘Shibuya’s Worst Person’ change with his own eyes, Joshua had decided to return Neku’s life to him. But, of course, fate wasn’t done toying with Neku; in a twist, the Calamity warped time forwards and backwards at once, hurling Neku, Shiki, Beat and Rhyme back into the UG, and ripping the entire UG from Shibuya, imprinting itself into the nearest stable city; a place by the name of Alexandria. The UG and the real world were forcibly combined, giving the Reapers, the Players, and the Noise monsters physical form, but keeping their abilities as if they were in the UG, even without making a pact, aside from the Reaper’s ability to wipe players from existence. Neku and his friends were separated when the Calamity occurred, and his only goal now is to determine how to return things to normal and prevent something worse from happening, as well as tracking down Beat, Shiki and Rhyme to make sure they’re all right.
