PERSONAL
PERSONAL APPEARANCE
The man known as Zecht by some and the Terror of Darkness by others is an individual with quite striking features. He stands at an impressive 6'11, dwarfing most others in stature. His skin, once milky and tan, has now grown pale due to exposure to high densities of dark energy. Because of this, he is quite susceptible to the light (IE. sunlight, holy magic, etc). He clads himself in black armor, signifying his fealty to none save himself. His hair is of neck length, unruly and silver in color and his pupils are a deep golden color. Zecht's facial features are narrow and his eyes almost always set in a scowl even when he is not very angry. The most notable characteristic of his however is his pointed ears which extend at least 3 to 4 inches from the sides of his head. This provides him with very sharp hearing and a "Sixth Sense" of sorts, being able to hear the whispers of the spirits of nature.
PERSONALITY
Serious to a fault. Determined. Indifferent. Impartial. Such are the words most apt to describe this mercenary. He comes across initially as a cold and callous person, not willing to let anyone near him for any reason whatsoever. Due to his origins being the world of Vana'diel, their world's deity of destruction Promanthia cursed him and the entirety of the Elvaan race with the curse of Arrogance. It is to these ends that Zecht will never allow anyone to aid him in any way, nor will he help others merely out of gesture unless there is money involved. As the son of a once wealthy noble, Zecht also comes off as aristocratic at times. This makes him extremely difficult to goad and draw him into unnecessary combat, believing that there is no need to flaunt his already impressive power. He will often talk down to those he deems beneath him or unworthy of his respect. These people he often refers to as "worms" or "Vermin".
To him, power is everything. Believing himself to have lacked power he offered his soul to the darkness in order to attain power. The darkness that lies in the hearts of all mankind was brought to the surface, reflecting in Zecht's attitude. Although usually quiet and mild at most times, he is prone to show devious tendencies such as torturing those he meets in battle or disregarding the lives of others. In other words, every negative trait within Zecht is maximized which leads to fierce violence when excited. In order to keep others from getting too close, he drives anyone who makes the attempt away from him. The darkness has given him power, but it also robbed him of any chances at a normal life.
Aside from all this, Zecht does possess some sense of justice. He will step in and fight for those who are outnumbered, believing that only cowards attack a single individual with excessive force. However, if he is observing a duel in which one has the unfair advantage, he will do naught but watch and wait for the loser to realize that it takes more than brute strength or pure tactic to win a fight for survival. His arrogance will lead him to the front lines of battle, making him a powerful ally... and a fearsome foe to those who stand in his way.
On the battlefield, Zecht is harsh and ruthless. He takes every fight seriously, and will not hesitate to land the finishing blow on an opponent. His only weakness is his arrogance, which will lead him to play cat and mouse with a weaker foe than himself. When fighting a stronger foe than himself, his arrogance will lead him to attack with every ounce of strength he has in order to crush the opposition in one fell swing of his blade. In battle, he believes himself to be in complete control, and on the rare occasion that he is faced with death he will use his powers over darkness to escape. Even with arrogance, he believes that those who fight and run away live to fight another day.
ITEMS
Pitch Black Garnet: This was the stone granted to him when he attained his power over darkness. His master, the legendary Dark Knight Zeid granted it to him as a gift when he passed the trial of becoming a dark knight by slaying the souls of a hundred living monsters within a 24 hour time limit. The stone glows a dull purple, and has the tendency to surround Zecht with an aura that reduces some of the damage dealt to him and instead adds it to his vitality. Zecht strongly believes that there is more to the stone that meets the eye.
HISTORY
On the faraway world of Vana'diel, within the kingdom of San d'oria lived the noble house Gaudeval. The family took pride in their prestige among the people, famous from bringing forth proud and powerful knights to serve under the banner of the red lion. Zecht Gaudeval, one of two twin children born to the house Gaudeval, resided within the family's main manor and for the most part of his young life acted as a noble child was required to act. He did not speak unless spoken to, nor did he interact with the common people. He spent time within the manor learning the ways of knighthood and etiquette necessary for him to grow as a nobleman.
The monotonous droll of life came screeching to a halt when he reached the age of seventeen.
Zecht quickly ascended through the training sessions and tests of knighthood. When the final exam came, involving a duel with the top students of San d'oria knight academy. When the final round came about, he stood face to face with his twin brother, Rufiel Gaudeval. They set their family ties aside and clashed in one of the most impressive displays of swordsmanship ever seen in the academy's history. Both warriors parried each other's advances almost perfectly. As the battle progressed until sundown, both warriors decided to end the battle with one final charge. As with every battle, the one possessing the will to win at any cost. However Zecht assessed the battle up to that point, the fact of the matter was that his twin was at the receiving end of his blade... And it is because of that fact that he withheld the brute force of his strike.
At the day's end, Rufiel was knighted as a temple knight for the kingdom of San d'oria.
The loss was devastating to Zecht, believed to be the one most likely to ascend to knighthood. He became the subject of much mockery to many of the kingdom's noble families. A crushed Zecht sought solitude within the manor walls, not uttering a word to his family or his housekeepers. For nearly two months he locked himself away from the sun, reading every parchment he could find pertaining to the acquisition of more power. In his mind, he believed that the attainment of more power would allow him to take his rightful place as both head of the household and general of the Knight's of the Red Lion. He came upon a parchment with an ancient Elvaan scripture describing the legendary Crystal, a godlike gem that existed as both an entity and an object at the same time. He decided he would travel the world looking for the fabled Crystal, as it was rumored to grant any individual with a strong will anything they desired. He secretly packed his things and at the end of the midsummer's festival, he departed from the Kingdom of San d'oria for the first and final time.
Armed only with a sword, his armor and his strength, Zecht traveled all the way to the grand duchy of Jeuno. There, he sought work as a mercenary in order to keep his skill with the sword sharp. The tasks he preformed were of all kinds, eventually teaching him more about the world that existed outside of the walls of his family's manor. The experience was quite traumatizing, leading Zecht to distance himself from other adventurers and mercenaries. As he gained notoriety among civilians and travelers alike, he received requests from all over Vana'diel. On a fateful darksday afternoon, Zecht recieved a letter telling him to meet him at the isle of qufim. When there, he was met by a hulking Galka clad in black armor wielding a large claymore. Despite the aggressor's fierce attacks, Zecht was barely able to fight the attacker to a standstill.
The Galka introduced himself as the legendary rogue knight Zeid. Rumored to have slain the shadowlord 40 years prior, the Galka asked Zecht what he sought so far from home. When he revealed his reasons, the Dark Knight spat with contempt. With a wave of his hand, the sword Zecht carried became one of darksteel, heavy with what Zeid described as the hunger for living souls. Although unable to guide him to the crystal himself, he directed Zecht to a tower concealed within the rocky clefts of the island. It was at the top that Zeid said he would find his power, and with that the Elvaan dragged the sword into the tower.
Long abandoned, the tower had become home to plenty of monsters and Zecht soon found himself under attack. With a strained swing of his seemingly useless sword, the creature fell and he found the sword a bit easier to wield. As he climbed the tower, dead monsters and beastmen lay in his wake until he reached the very top and slew the guardian of the celestial nexus and the hundredth monster he had encountered on his climb to the top. in that instance the black blade flew forth and changed shape. Its dark blade seemed to grow a jewel that resembled an eye and a single sharp edge as opposed to two edges. He took hold of the scabbard, and a dark cloud seemed to swirl about him. When the cloud dispersed, his skin had become pale and his previous armor was replaced with pitch black armor. The task had granted him the power to utilize the power of the Dark Knight, but it was not what he was originally after. Perplexed, he sat and awaited what would come next. He felt his insatiable need for more power fuel the dark energies that now coursed through his entire being, but also felt a heaviness akin to the blade he wielded. Driven nearly mad by the darkness consuming him, he stared at the gates to which his master had instructed him to pass through. It was then that he realized that his journey would end as he passed through the gates to the celestial nexus.
Upon stepping into the room, the enormous crystal spoke asking him what it was that he desired. When Zecht replied saying he wished for more power, Zecht was shown a world the likes of which he had never seen before. In appearance of a bauble lost within a sea of chaos and destruction. Before he could ask what vision he was experiencing, he was struck by an ethreal burst of light and vanished from the face of Vana'diel.
When he awoke, he found himself on a vast plain completely unfamiliar to him.
Thinking of what had just transpired, he stood and wandered his new world. With no home and a past left shrouded in darkness, he no longer had nothing to lose. He would discover what "power" lay in this new world, and redeem his honor... by any means necessary. [/blockquote]

BATTLE
WEAPONRY
Umbra Astralis (Astral Darkness): It is the blade brought forth after Zecht unknowingly completed the trial of darkness set before him by Zeid, a legendary Dark Knight. The blade is bizarre in appearance, with a single razor sharp edge and what appears to be teeth on the other side of the blade. A jewel resembling an eye can be found near the claymore's grip. It is very large, too heavy for others to wield but due to the contract Zecht made with darkness he is able to wield it with frightening speed and accuracy. Umbra Astralis is also mysterious in the sense that it shares Zecht's hunger for power. When it senses a large source of power, the "eye" of the sword will begin to glow.
STOCKED ABILITIES
Shadow Strike - Inflicts Moderate Dark damage to a single adversary. - 2 post cooldown - 20 LP
Lifesiphon - Every time an attack lands successfully the attacker is healed for 10% of the damage inflicted. - Costs 15 LP
Area Barrier - Physical and Magical Defense is boosted by 50% and the rest of your party gains a 30% Physical and Magical Defense boost. - Costs 15 LP
BREAKING LIMIT
Nova Consecro: When Zecht's emotions reach a boiling point in battle, the Umbra Astralis will begin to glow with a deep red hue. At this point, Zecht drives his blade into the ground in front of him, releasing a large, 60 foot dome of dark destruction. It is unnatural in nature that it does not cause any cosmetic damage to the environment around him and is intangible in nature, but it causes massive damage to an individual when it touches them. In order to use the Nova Consecro, Zecht must be stationary which may leave him open to attack, but once this power is let loose it covers a 360 degree field around and above him which grants him brief but complete protection. The cooldown after this ability is used is 7 posts.[/blockquote]
