He could have easily bet she wasn't prepared for his attack. Yeah, he'd been taking it easy so far and even right then hadn't unleashed his full arsenal. Perhaps it was the banter or the fact that he was waiting to get the most from her before ending their duel. But she WAS just testing him and he knew it. He had a good sense of her holding back this entire time -- after all, up until then she'd been dogging him by alternating between two different magicks. They weren't the high class type, either and after her first attempt to charge him he felt she must have only had a very limited array of attacks available. Still, he smiled at the thought... they were going to dinner tonight regardless of who won -- the winner would be paying and he sure as heck didn't mind blowing out some gil for a good night with her. They were right here in Garden, though, and he didn't know what their eating options would be like... although now that he thought on it he figured he could take her somewhere nice -- maybe even pay for a luxury airship ride for the night.
Yeah. That would do it... and you know, just as he was thinking about what to wear his opponent came out decked from head to toe in magickal steel. His lips could only pull into a lop-sided smile, her voice wasn't as shaky but he could hear it... and that slight pause before saying anything back? He was flattered he had that affect on her. Oh but despite this change, he knew what was coming next... just right on cue as she rippled a wave of lightning right at him. Oh, it would have hurt alright -- from the crackle in the air he could tell that would have given him pause if it struck. IF. And just as it was about to collide, Auric holstered his weapon and brought up both his hands in front of him to shield himself from what would no doubt be some harm, keeping it there as the thunder eventually dissipated.
"Fresh fruit and warm bathes, huh?" he grinned, walking towards her... oh he had a surprise for her. "Good to know." he mused, thinking on what exactly she'd just told him. A bathe, he knew involved taking off clothes -- regardless of where you were from. And despite her initial reservations he could easily perceive that she must have thought of having no clothes with him in the same room. She was less conservative than she appeared. Of course there were things about him as well that he figured he'd let her know... given that they would be intimate that night. He approached her clad form, stopping but a step away for he understood enough about her that she wouldn't be so foolish as to try swinging her key blade at him after coming so close.
"If that's what the lady wants." he insisted, placing his hand on the center of her chest. His hand crackled with familiar energy... he was returning what she'd given him. With interest.
"You're overdressed." he winked, standing this close and ready to catch her if what he was about to do was too much.

She was on her last legs, she knew it... Somewhere in her mind told her to get up and fight, though rationality won when she began to think more with her mind and not her pride. It was a test, simple as that yet Aqua seemed to take it a bit more seriously towards the end- slowly forgetting she wasn't in a fight for her life. Though it didn't mean her pride wasn't wounded... Oh she would get him for this! Somehow... Sitting up she listened to him shaking the cobwebs and instincts to retaliate out of her skull as she felt his hand on her chest, making her feel the urge to yell and slap his hand away. Only to see that his hand was cracking with the same magic that she sent at him moments before!
'This.. might hurt..' She thought dryly as Aqua felt the electricity course through her armor and tingle over skin- it wasn't a lot but enough to cause her armor to fall away and disperse in particles of white light. It seemed Aqua had lost... Moving up showing she was completely fine she sighed as though resigning herself to some cruel fate- it was a mock sigh of course though she still kind of regretted her little agreement to the bet... "I guess you win Auric, that was a good work out." Aqua smiled as her eyes shined with humor. "So I guess this means I'm you're date tonight- anyplace in mind?" She asked getting up and dusting her clothes off before looking at the mercenary with clear ocean blue eyes.
"I know some places, and due to my standing I can get us in some pretty expensive restaurants." She smiled again as she stood straight up. "And yes I remember the kiss as well, I just hope you don't try to pull anything sneaky Romeo~" Came her cheeky wit as she winked at him before holding out her hand to him. "Anyway, welcome to Balamb Garden Instructor Auric- I hope you're easier on the students than you were me." She laughed lightly before waiting for his handshake. Besides- Aqua had to show some formality right?

PERFECT VICTORY
Oh she would have known what was coming. Of course he couldn't have expected everyone to be as quick on the uptake as himself... after seeing a move only once, Auric was the kind of guy who could mentally decipher an attack and probably know its full nature by the next time it came around. It was what made him special... unique. He had always been different from others. He was grateful for his upbringing in Aurelis -- in anywhere else on the world he would have been an outcast... picked on, like some freak of nature. He really couldn't help what he was... but you know? It was easier to hide it. Some details were too complicated for others to grasp... it was why he always lived such an isolated life. Why everyone who'd known him for years couldn't understand the feeling that they didn't fully know him.
But he learned a long time ago that he didn't have to always be distant. People might not ask questions but they accepted him regardless... now, he always kept himself carefree and easygoing so things would be fair. Auric had burdens he couldn't talk about but he'd always bear it... and being the guy he really was, he needed to spread enjoyment around. It was the very least he could do. So as he opened his palm and her own thunder flashed against her armor and she staggered back, the fight was over... he had won and passed her test. And won the bet, as well... and there we had it -- he had a date for the night on his own gil, he'd won a kiss and her trust. All of which would be worth it for her in the end -- Auric was going to ensure she'd have a fun time.
"No promises." he replied, grinning. Oh of course he never elaborated to what he meant... whether he wasn't going to try anything sneaky or be as harsh on his students. Still, he took her hand in his own and shook it firm but gently. "... I've got something different in mind for tonight. You'll love it, I promise... I heard the SeeD here have a graduation bash after their exams so we'll have to make it good." he smiled, looking over her now and wondering about how they'd both look in SeeD uniforms. But his features softened as he let go of her hand and he picked up his pack, slinging it over his shoulder he approached her once more, one eye closed like a long wink.
"... now how about we get the formalities out of the way, then you can show me around."
End thread.
