the feeling of cold ice was what woke the red-head up.
the eyelids shut over his mako blue optics flew open to find himself lying on his front, ruby gloved hand outstretched, as if to grab something... or someone, but what, or who?
he found himself unable to move as memories whipped through his mind, a fleeting dream for only six seconds but seeming to last for fifteen minutes. he could remember, feel the wind whipping through his hair, his wing slicing through the air itself and pushing it down to the earth. he remembered the weight of his white haired ‘brother’, his unconscious form almost dragging him down but such weight he was used to, was able to carry. he remembered seeing a dark mist in the cloudless sky, and wary of it, flying away from it, or attempting to.
it would be at that moment a sudden thunderstorm would start up, the thunder being loud whispers of unknown beings and the storm being the gathering darkness that violently knocked him unconscious, but mentally. moments later he woke up, though, and his grip on weiss the immaculate slipped. the tsviet’s body started to distort and fade , and another presence was felt in the darkness. the darkness emanating from the man almost unable to believe but definitely real. nero the sable... before the red-head had a chance to try grabbing the unconscious form of weiss he passed out.
and then he found himself here. wherever ‘here’ was.
slowly he got used to his surroundings and he rolled over to his right, almost instinctively. when he saw a glimpse of the end of his single black feathered wing the fact that he was flying through the air, preparing to save the planet form the crisis it was about to face, using his lone wing. a grumble of displeasure came from the red-head when the feeling of cold ice went through his leather coat and turtleneck. he should really get up, but to be honest, it did feel nice to lie down...
on second thought, not so comfortable on hard crystal, so the red-head immediately put his legs up in the air and forced himself off the ground, landing in a near perfect squat, falling forwards thus a gloved hand was placed on the hard floor. his nose twitched.
no, there was no smell of anything. unless the scent of blood had been covered up. slowly the man rose from the crystal ground, lightly brushing down his attire before he came in contact with his rapier attached to his belt. that was odd. he could’ve sworn he didn’t have it with him when he flew off with weiss’s body in his arms. was it perhaps that storm that had his rapier materialise on his hip? perhaps he forgot about grabbing the weapon? something odd was going on.
such as various gaps in his memory, though he wasn’t too willing to go search onwards in his mind for which memories were missing.
a minute passed as the red-head thought to himself, deep in thought, before a red leather clad hand made its way to the pack behind him, hidden by his trench coat. he slid a book out, a leather bound book with an elegantly designed cover and back page. a smile made its way onto his face, displaying his affection for the thick book, before placing it back in and reaching for his phone. that was still there, too, and that was about it. but he couldn’t help thinking that a banora white should be in there too.
with a calm air surrounding him and a prideful tone to his voice, he recited the final act of LOVELESS, “even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return. to become the dew that quenches the land, to spare the sands, the seas, the skies, i offer thee this silent sacrifice.”
time to work, to figure out what happened to his planet, to protect others and prevent any crisis’s. it might seem a lot of work, but... genesis rhapsodos had a feeling that he could at least try.

"Hm..."
As Ouranus was training under Rosch for the PSICOM, she had been studying the history of Cocoon. In her hand was a book that she had been jotting down notes in with the city in general. There was a lot of things to take in, but at the very least she was more than happy to learn what it needed of her. This time however she was being smart about her time in Cocoon. She was careful to not show that she was not the enemy or that she was looking for trouble. Hopefully she could be able to gain as much knowledge as possible to be something more, something that even her mother would have loved to see her daughter as.
As she walked through the streets, she was careful to not bump up against anyone. Thankfully her chocobo served as her little radar. Everytime she heard the little "kweh" coming from above in her mane of silver hair, she knew to move aside so that she could be sure to continue to study as she worked on her assignment from Rosch. Eventually she continued to read until she heard multiple "kweh" from her chocobo companion. Normally one "kweh" would mean that she would need to move aside, but many meant only one thing: lift your head and see what is going on. As she raised her head, she caught a glimpse of a man that was strange to her. She already knew that he wasn't a part of this city mainly because of the clothing that he wore. That was how the PSICOM was able to tell that she wasn't a part of Cocoon. At first she saw the book, but wasn't able to see what he was reading. But the other strange item was the give away she needed to know he was advanced. Curiously she walked at first beside him, looking over her book and with every few seconds looking at him with her golden eyes.

his wanderings had brought him to civilisation. too engrossed in the book of LOVELESS he was to realise that he had wandered towards a town, a large one at that, or even a city. footsteps from many people caused him to lift his head and blink slowly. his attire would stand out, like a black chocobo amongst many yellow feathered ones, amongst all these people, as would the wing. quickly, before any one noticed him, he retracted his wing and it vanished into his body, quite like how materia would disappear into your body. the only physical reminder of the single wing was the few black feathers floating to the ground.
casually, genesis moved on forward, walking through the various streets, his senses alert even if his body didn’t seem to be so. his mako eyes read each printed word, a glimmer of joy in his eyes. each time he read the piece of literature, something new always sprung out of him. eventually he would think he knew the book’s secrets, every single one of them, but he would find more, and more, and yet more hidden pieces. the red-head was glad that he hadn’t claimed that he knew all of LOVELESS’ secrets to angeal.
eventually his mako enhanced senses made his eyes flicker to the side, and he saw a silver haired female. the shade of the colour made him think of another friend of his, a rival and one he was jealous of (in the past, though. was he not the hero now?). the great sephiroth of SOLDIER. absently he wondered if she must be related to the man in any way, but she didn’t have any features that resembled him...
“may i help, miss?” he asked, a polite tone to his voice as he made a gesture for her to draw back from the crowd as he did so, making his way to the edge of the street. genesis stood quite still as he watched her, shutting his beloved book of fantastic literature after placing a its ribbon at the page he was at. though he wasn’t particularly too happy at being interrupted in his reading time, a ghost of a smile was on his face.

"I noticed you don't look like anyone here. That's okay, I am not trying to cause any problems. I'm not really from here either."
Ouranus had a calm demeanor as she looked at the red haired man. He didn't seem to be someone trying to get into trouble. Maybe he was like her in a way, a lost soul just trying to figure out what was going on around here and try to find a way to adjust to the new world if it will remain this way for good. As she commented that she wasn't from this realm too, she was also commenting on her clothing as well. Though she was training for the PSICOM, she still kept many of her old clothing from Alexandria. She had been wearing a simple white shirt along with tan colored pants and a pair of sandals. As she looked at him, her golden eyes then went to the book with a curious expression on her face. Perhaps he was also taking notes as well to find out what was going on with the world in general like her. But she would need to find more about it.
Her golden eyes seemed to shine in the moonlight. Though trained as a warrior, Ouranus still had a child like curiousity around her. She wanted to know more about the new world around her and the various people that now populate the new world. This one seemed a little bit curious to her since he must have been from another one of the areas that had been touched. Stepping to his side, she simple smiled at him with a kind expression. "My name is Ouranus, and I am from the kingdom of Alexandria." She gave him a respectful bow as she looked at the man. She hoped that he would be a little bit open, but she was careful to not tell him about everything that she was. Perhaps he could be able to tell him about who he was and where he came from. However she couldn't help but look at his book. It was more about a sense of curiousity then gathering of information. It didn't seem like a little journal. Maybe it was an actual story he was reading?

in response to his question, it was an odd answer that was given. did he not look like anyone around her? genesis’s mako eyes looked towards the crowd, then he nodded to himself slightly. not many people, actually, no one was wearing leather around her. though genesis cared for his appearance (more than the average SOlDIER, too, and his skin was far softer than any other SOLDIER’s. some would say he was religious about moisturising.) he wouldn’t care about blending into a crowd, for he believed that his style was his own and no one else’s.
did she just say she wasn’t from ‘here’ either? perhaps she meant ‘here’ as in the city, but it sounded more... widespread. such as, not from this world. genesis knew that this place was not of his own world, due to having been everywhere on the planet, whether it be on a holiday with his adopted parents, or for missions, or for curiosity, he knew where everything on his world was. and none of it was like this place.
those golden eyes showed a childlike curiosity in them, glowing in the moonlight like how his startling blue optics constantly glowed regardless of anything. as she smiled at him, a smile lit up his facial features, being friendly towards the girl.
“greetings, ouranus. my name is genesis rhapsodos,” he lightly rolled the ‘r’ of his last name, “from the village of banora. i however can’t give you a name of the... ‘kingdom’, or rather, ‘world’ i come from. it was lost in the past, much like the fifth and final act of this book.” genesis lifted up LOVELESS, noticing that the silver haired lady was looking at it with an air of curiosity emanating from her. he held the book out to her, trusting her to be careful with his beloved piece of literature. though she looked much like a warrior, she seemed to be careful, graceful, quite like him. the grace he held didn’t come from the mako or the jenova cells in his body. in fact, he had always been a graceful young child, flexible and adept at both fighting and magic.
“the final act of LOVELESS has been lost for a long time, though i found it. i daren’t write in the book, but i slipped a piece of paper in the back,” he frowned ever so slightly in thought, “who knows? maybe the name of my planet will be found in near future, but for now we call her ‘gaia’.”

"Good day Genesis."
Genesis...it was a rather interesting name to have. It was a unique name to her. But one thing was clear to her: much like Ouranus, he too was a lost soul as well. His city must have been devastated by whatever had happened to her kingdom. In a way she did feel sympathy for the red haired man. But then he started to talk about some kind of final act, which made her even more curious. Turning her head curiously, she looked at the strange book that he had in his possession.
Ouranus wasn't a stranger to stories, but the stories she usually were told were about her ancestors. There was only one play that she learned about in Alexandria from when her parents had taken her and her siblings. However, the name couldn't really come to her at the moment. But she did know that this item seemed to be very precious to Genesis. This fact she knows all too well considering that both her sword and crest were passed down through her family and she had been the last person to be given the last of her family's trace of Alexandria. Opening the book, she listened to his explanation as she read the story of Loveless. It was an interesting read none the less. She too kind of wished that she could have been able to see what the final act was all about. Hopefully she will see it in the future. Closing the book, she carefully gave it back to Genesis as she then nodded her head. Gaia...that was a good name for the planet. As she smiled, she seemed to be locked onto his blue eyes. Though her eyes shined in the moonlight, his eyes had a different light to them. Nothing evil, but rather it felt like the light was always there. It was almost as if he was infused with some kind of light around him.

he took the book back from ouranus, keeping hold of it as he recited the final lines of LOVELESS after his explanation of the planet’s name, eyes fixed mostly ont he sky.
“even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forestall my return. to become the dew that quenches the land, to spare the sands, the seas, the skies. i offer thee this silent sacrifice.”
memories of his last fight, the fight where he had gathered up the stream of life into the goddess materia above him, transformed himself and went into battle with zack. for some reason the fight itself was a void, but thought that somehow he had hit his head when he had suddenly been knocked out by the SOLDIER, appearing into the lifestream itself. perhaps that was the case, but the ex-SOLDIER couldn’t help but think there was more to it than just simply hitting his head which made him lose various memories.
as he slowly moved his gaze down from the sky, back to the silver haired woman from the kingdom of alexandria, he noticed that her eyes were fixed on his own. for a moment, he wondered why, then he realised that his blue eyes were unnaturally coloured compared to other eyes of the same colour. for one eyes, from what he knew, never became that same shade with the mysterious glow to them without being infused with mako, and second... he sighed mutely to himself and started to explain about his eyes to ouranus.
“my eyes aren’t ‘naturally’ coloured,” he spoke carefully, thinking of a way to make the woman understand. “mako is an energy source where i come from. it is the liquid form of the lifestream – a river of life surrounding our planet, and considered to be its ‘blood’. those in SOLDIER-“ he spoke the name with pride, wondering fleetingly what had become of it, “-the elite fighting force of Shinra are easily recognised by the ‘strange glow’ in our eyes. the light in our eyes comes from people being exposed to mako, and that is SOLDIER. not many of those outside our ‘world of honour and pride’-“ a distant smile on his face when he remembered his best friend, “-have mako eyes.” he decided to leave the fact that mako enhanced their senses and strengths... and the fact that some members of SOLDIER – only five from what he could remember – were injected with jenova cells, which made them even stronger than with mako.
an ache in his mind appeared when he remembered being dubbed a failure.

"Oh?"
As she said that, her chocobo poked its head out of her hair as she listened to Genesis' explanation. Though she was curious, it was clear that she had no clue what he was talking about from the look on her face. The only things she knew when it came to using a power source was in the ways of the mist. But other than that, other types of energy were alien to her. This mako to her however did make her feel uneasy. However, it wasn't because of the glow in Genesis' eyes. It was because of how it had to be attained. This brought a look of concern in her own eyes as he explained to her what needed to be done with the mako energy.
In the back of her mind, she knew about how the mist was used to create weapons for Alexandria. And it never felt right to her. It was apparent even in her mother's voice when she disapproved the usage of mist for creating weapons. It was something that always seemed to be very dangerous work and if someone was too reckless then a lot of people could have gotten hurt. Deep down she shuddered at even the very thought of someone literally using the Mist and infuse a body with it. She prayed that would never come to pass. At the end of the explanation, she only asked one question to Genesis as she looked into his glowing eyes. "Does it hurt, the mako being in your body?" It was clear she was concerned more about the well being of Genesis than the overall effects of the mako. She never had to deal with something this drastic, but it didn't take much for even her to feel concern for him. Something foreign living inside of the body cannot be without some kind of pain. Whatever SOLDIER was must have given him some kind of training though to probably withstand it. However, something like that probably cannot be purged stimulus wise. It wasn't like being hit with a sword or with some kind of magic.

he was met with a question at the end of his explanation, but it wasn’t one that he expected. he had expected to be asked to elaborate on the process, or so, but it was more of a question of concern as genesis could feel ouranus’s gaze on his shining eyes.
“does it hurt, the mako being in your body?”
“not at all. it shouldn’t hurt when the mako is being placed in your body, so long as you’re mentally and physically capable of taking it. we get reports of some people becoming ill...” a dull sigh escaped him. it was unfortunate that such willing people to join SOLDIER were unable to join it due to becoming flooded with mako poisoning. so very unfortunate, their dreams crushed and having to find another way to pride themselves.
he had crushed the dreams of many seconds and thirds, he realised, by having them desert SOLDIER and turning them into a clone of himself. they had families, too, most likely, or friends not in SOLDIER, and they had other dreams, such as meeting a first class face to face... genesis didn’t care at that time. he felt his eyes watering.
“excuse me,” he murmured quietly as he lifted up a ruby clad hand and wiped a tear off his cheek. he had made himself cry... the past was not something he was fond of. it felt right to do that at the time, dreaming to be a success and regain his pride as SOLDIER, to fulfill his dream of completing his duty to the people of the planet, but doing those things... it made him more of a villain, not a hero. he was a mere friend of a hero, but then jealousy and angst about being dubbed a failure overtook him and he became the criminal. and now, was he not the one trying to redeem himself, trying to become a true hero to the people?
another tear ran down his cheek. he felt alone in his task, and he did feel like a failure again.
“... i apologise for the tears,” genesis quietly muttered, wiping the few rogue drops from his cheek and dropping his gaze to the ground. he hoped ouranus wouldn’t ask. it would only bring himself to more tears and out in public... he would rather not be seen crying in public. in fact, the only person he had ever cried in front of (not when he was a baby!) was angeal.

So he had to survive the ordeal in order to use it...
She didn't know what would be needed in order to have the mako work in their bodies. She didn't want to know because from what she could see. Though she wasn't sure why Genesis was crying, she did have a feeling that it was because of those who had become sick or even died in the experiments. Her golden eyes showed compassion as she then softly rubbed her chocobo's head. She watched him rub his eyes, apologizing that he was crying. She then softly smiled and shook her head. "You don't need to apologize. Those people in SOLDIER, they were like your family in a way weren't they? Losing your family would be very sad. I know this because my family is gone. Something happened in the mist, turning the citizens of my land insane. I told my brothers and sisters to escape and I fought them. So I have been traveling for a while now to figure out what is going on." She looked into his eyes as she continued to smile kindly. She didn't see his tears as something of weakness. Shedding tears for those who you care about is something she knew all too well. She had found no trace of her parents or her siblings. For all she knew they could have been dead. However, with the mist consuming the innocent, death would have been merciful. Losing your mind and turning into a monster; that was something she would never wish even on her enemies.

it was almost a surprise to see the female smile softly at him, shaking her head in response when he apologised. to him, it seemed a bit rude to start crying in the middle of a conversation. he didn’t know why, perhaps it was how he was brought up, but he found crying a weakness. well, not him, but the tougher SOLDIERs, they found tears to be a weakness and consider that person to be a ‘wimp’. genesis was, despite how he seemed, a sensitive person once he got thinking, but he managed, only just, to hide the tears from everyone else.
“you don’t need to apologise. those people in SOLDIER, they were like your family in a way weren’t they? losing your family would be very sad. i know this because my family is gone. something happened in the mist, turning the citizens of my land insane. i told my brothers and sisters to escape and i fought them. so i have been travelling for a while now to figure out what is going on.”
she just didn’t understand, did she, that he too was a monster? not completely insane, but...
“... i don’t consider many to be my family. i didn’t care about the second and third class SOLDIERs. i took them, i turned them into copies of myself. i didn’t care if they had dreams, i didn’t care if they had families to go home to. it was part of my plan,” a darkened tone took to his voice, but he quickly shook his head and at a quick pace he started walking to where he originally was – a crystallised lake of sorts – signalling to ouranus to follow. as soon as he was out of view of the city, keeping his back to it, and he spread his single black wing, sending a few feathers to the iced over water.
when he knew for sure that ouranus was there, he turned around, a small look of pain on his face.
“i’m a monster. i used to have no dreams or honour, but the goddess in the book of LOVELESS... she restored me, she stopped my degradation progress. and as a thank you i decided to redeem myself, to protect the planet as its guardian,” he sighed quietly, “that is my play. say what you wish.”
genesis brought his wing in close to his side, remembering weiss’s disappearing form. where was he? the only family he felt he had – not counting sephiroth and angeal – was nero and weiss. not his biological brothers, but spliced with his cells...

In her mind, there were two main aspects that had always taken form...
The first side was what had been instilled by her mother. It was the warrior in her that was symbolized by the three aspects of the family's way. The first way was the sword, the one who will always charge into battle no matter the odds. The second was the shield, the one who would defend anyone. The last was the fist, which was confused for the sword something but it was considered as the sign of leadership. To raise your fist to the heavens and show to those around you that you were not afraid. Even in the most dire of situations, there is always some kind of hope. That was the side of her that made her almost want to slap Genesis for that comment. No one's life is worthless, regardless of rank. Even the least likely of warriors could determine the final round of the fight.
However, before she could even say a word, her father's side kicked in as she almost seemed hypnotized by the wing that he had on his body. It was then he finished the end of his story. He seemed to be genuine about wanting to redeem himself. Tapping her foot, she then spoke to him as the anger left and what remained was a contemplative nature. "So in a way, you can say that you started as the villian, but the events around you changed you to want to be a hero." She then looked up in the sky as she then added something more. "But that wing of yours, that is what I am trying to understand. If everyone was injected with the same mako that you speak of, then why does it cause mutations inside of your body?" She had wanted to understand what he was, and the wing that he had only added more questions than answers at the moment.

“so in a way, you can say that you started as the villain, but the events around you changed you to want to be a hero.”
“a friend of a hero, jealous of the hero’s fame, becoming the villain of the story before finally the time for redemption starts,” he corrected, allowing memories of the past to momentarily flood his mind. sephiroth the hero, he polluted his best friend’s mind with the truth, rendering him the villain too, and eventually genesis came to assume the role. but did he really deserve the title at the moment? the wanderer... it was close to angeal, and for the prisoner, that would be zack fair. a frown appeared on his face. the LOVELESS fanatic had a thought that he should stop thinking so deeply about the play, and stop trying to compare it to his life. the story had ended and it was time to create a sequel with himself as the hero.
“but that wing of yours, that is what i am trying to understand. if everyone was injected with the same mako you speak of, then why does it cause mutations inside your body?”
a small smile made his way onto his lips as he thought of a response.
“believe it or not, i am part of an experiment. while i was infused with mako, at the time of my birth i was spliced with the cells of a ‘calamity from the skies’, otherwise known as jenova. shinra thought she was an ancient, the civilisation of the planet and who died out, and created the jenova project, to try creating a human hybrid with jenova’s powers. the mako used was laced with jenova’s cells, correct, but i... i, and two friends of mine – angeal and sephiroth – were results of the projects. angeal and i were part of the project ‘G’ branch. gillian would be injected with jenova’s cells, and then i would later be injected with gillian’s cells later... angeal was exposed to the cells though, in the womb of gillian. we both however degraded, needing cells from project ‘S’.” it was at that moment genesis decided that he was still, despite his attempts not to be, the villain. “another scientist injected the cells of jenova directly into a fetus in the mother’s womb. that was sephiroth, and he can’t degrade. i tried to get his cells, thugh it didn’t work.
“jenova’s cells enabled us to mutate ever so slightly and gain a single wing. angeal’s was white,” he paused, “sephiroth and mine are black.” was there some sort of reason why they were those colours? white, purity, good. that came to his mind. black, disased, evil. that too came to his mind. was genesis perhaps unable to again because ‘good’...?
“only those who were injected with jenova’s cells gained wings. the other SOLDIERs, they only had mako laced with jenova’s cells. it wasn’t directly in their body and bloodstream...” it was getting increasingly more difficult to explain it so the one who was now hopeless about becoming a hero left it, turning away and staring into the distance.

At the very least you are seeking redemption.
Ouranus simply smiled at first as he talked about the description he had laid down with himself. Though she only skimmed the story of Loveless, still the fact remained that he wanted to change himself. Though she didn't agree what he had done with his comrades, still she believed that he wanted to be something more. To change what had happened to him in the past and try to make it a positive. But then she got even more questions to her mind as he explained to her in rather peculiar detail. He referred to things that were beyond Ouranus to grasp. Being green in the ways of technology was an understatement. She was still trying to grasp the idea of computers like the one that Rosch showed her during her registration. In fact, she had been poking a console not too long ago with her foot because she was afraid that if she activated it, then she would have been blown back by the ensuing explosion.
But it was apparent in her golden eyes that she was trying to get a grasp on what he was trying to explain to her. It was one thing seeing something along the lines of computers, but things like splicing and genetic manipulation were more than beyond her grasp at the moment. But even though she had lacked even the slightest bit of knowledge about genetics there were two things that she knew were apparent. The first thing that it seemed wrong to her. No better than what Brahne had done with creating the black mages. She felt compassion, concern for Genesis because even if it made him strong it still was wrong. And the fact that not only he was not even consulted on it, but he wasn't even fully conceived, made it only worse. But she seemed to be getting back to Jenova, the "Calamity from the skies". What if this Jenova was the reason why things turned out so bad? Walking over to him, she looked up at the sky as well. "Do you think Jenova could have done this? Meld all of these worlds together?"

from the glint in her eyes it was shown that this ouranus didn’t have much technology in the world she came from, but she was trying to get a better grasp on it. he was thankful for that, for she must have been quite interested in technology, and that made it better for genesis, for some odd reason that he couldn’t explain.
“do you think jenova could have done this? meld all of these worlds together?”
he had heard talk about a calamity befalling the world, but he was sure it wasn’t the alien from the stars. no, it was someone else causing this crisis, forging the worlds together quite like how the plates would shift and smack into each other. this world had been made into a single world for them to live upon, perhaps.
“...no, i believe not so. jenova lives to destroy, to sail the cosmos using planets as a vessel and destroy other ones. plus, from my sources – before this happened – jenova was ‘dead’,” he put air quotes around the final word, before continuing on, “i feel it is something else that caused this. i think... minerva, the foretold goddess of loveless and perhaps the manifestation of the lifestream and the planet’s will itself, tried to tell me something. i could hear a voice when i fell into the lifestream, and i can remember it, but what she said... it’s blank, as if removed to stop me from trying to stop the crisis,” a frown rose on his face, but he turned his head away. “she is quite fair – beautiful and forgiving. she stopped my degradation so i could fulfil my duty as a SOLDIER, to protect the planet,” a small smile on his face.
it was only admiration for the goddess that he held. he wasn’t in love with her, no. well, he did love her, but not in the way of wishing for partnership with her...
